Dinakaran is a Tamil  newspaper daily. It is one of the popular dailies in Tamilnadu. The daily is owned by the Sun Network under the leadership of Mr. Kalanidhi Maran. The newspaper provides tough competition to other Tamil Dinathanthi and Dinamalar.  It is the  leading Tamil newspaper in terms of daily sales of over  1.2 million copies.

Tamil Newspaper Dinakaran was started in 1977 by KP Kandaswamy who is the founder of Dinakaran. KP Kandaswamy was in the support of DMK. His father in law SP Adithanar  is the founder of Tamil daily Dinathanthi. The newspaper was acquired by Kalanidhi Maran’s Sun Network in 2005.
The newspaper ran into a controversy in 2006 when the daily published an opinion poll which showed that people preferred MK Stalin more than MK Alagiri as the  successor of MK Karunanidhi. Owing to this , mobsters fire bombed the daily's office in Madurai in which three employees of office died. This incident also led to sacking of Dayanidhi Maran from the DMK party.
