Dhanush is an Tamil actor, playback singer and lyricist . He started his career as an actor and then explored into the fields of playback singing and as a lyricist. His father is Kasthuri Raja who is a Tamil director.
His brother is Tamil Director Selvaraghavan . Dhanush finished his higher education and started his career as an actor. He gave some hit Tamil movies. Later he married Aishwarya , Rajnikanth’s daughter. The couple has two sons , Yatra and Linga. He received the National Award for Best Actor in 200 for his performance in the movie Aadukalam.

Thulovadhoillamai:

Dhanush started his career playing a lead role in Thuluvadho Illamai in 2002. The movie which was directed by his father Kasthuri Raja was written by Dhanush’s brother Selvaraghavan . The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film portrayed Dhanush as male lead and Sherin another debutant as female lead. The movie moved around six schools students who eloped and ran away from their homes to live independently. The movie did well commercially and received some good reviews.


Kaadhal Konden:


Dhanush played a role of a mentally affected child in Kaadhal Konden (2003). The movie was directed by his brother Selvaraghavan . The film portrayed the love of Vinod towards heroine (Soniya Agarwal). Dhanush packed a powerful punch in his role. The film received positive reviews and did well in the box office.


Thiruda Thirudi:


Dhanush’s biggest break came in Thiruda Thirudi. The movie was directed by debutant Subramanium Siva and the female lead was played by debutant Chaya Singh. Dhanush played a role of a middle class youth Vasu who is playful and irresponsible. Vasu meets Chaya Singh through an accident. There are constant quarrels between Vasu and Chaya Singh . How they join is the rest of the story. Dhanush’s comedy along with Karunas worked well. The song Manmadha Rasa was a big hit and made the movie more popular. The movie provided complete entertainment and was a box office hit.


Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan (2004):


Dhanush as Saravanan, travels from Pudukottai to Singapore for his work. He faces many problems over there. He joins Aparna Pillai there and they both try to escape from their vows. The movie was shot in Thailand, Singapore , Malaysia. The film had poor screenplay and was very slow. The movie did not do well commercially.


Sullan (2004):


Sullan was yet another failure in the box office. Dhanush paired along with Sindhu Tolani. Dhanush portrayed as a careless college boy (Subramani), who later gets into a fight with the villain (Pasupathi). The story failed to make any impact. It was another box office failure.


Dreams (2004):


Dreams was the biggest failure of Dhanush movies. The film was directed by his father Kasthuri Raja. The film received negative reviews and did not do well in the box office.


Devathaiyai Kanden:


Dhanush as Babu played a boy who sells tea for his living. He then falls in love with Sridevi a college girl. The girl later refuses to accept Dhanush as he is poor and decides to marry a rich guy. Babu later files a case against her for cheating him. The script was not attractive. The film received mixed reviews.


Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam:


The movie was directed by Balu Mahindra. The film featured Dhanush pairing opposite Priyamani. The film was a remake of the old Malayalam movie Yatra. The story was told in flashback, Dhanush as Srinivasan alias Cheenu escapes from jail and tries to meet her lover Thulasi (Priyamani) who is the daughter of their maid. Cheenu’s parents don’t approve his love and he ends up drinking with his friends which brings several twists in his life. The movie was too slow and the film didn’t do well in the box office.


Pudhupettai (2006):


Pudhupettai was directed by Selvaraghavan. Dhanush paired up with actress Sneha and Sonia Agarwal. Kokki Kumar (Dhanush) a poor boy runs way from home as his after kills his mother. Later he befriends goons and falls in love with Sneha a sex worker. He kills his own boss (Azhagarperumal) and becomes the leader of the gang. The twists that follow is the rest of the story. The film was natural but had violence. The film did well in the box office.


Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam (2006):


Thiruvialiyaadal Aarambam was an action based comedy movie. The movie was directed by Boopathy Pandian. Dhansuh (Thiru) played a carefree boy who is always seen roaming with his friends. He falls in love with Shriya Saran (Priya) whose brother Guru (Prakashraj) is a business tycoon . Guru opposes Thiru’s love with Shriya . How the hero convinces Guru and the comical incidents that follow is the rest of the story. The movie was a huge commercial success.


Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram (2007):


The movie was a remake of the Telugu movie Jogi . Dhanush as Azhagu Sundaram starred opposite Meera Jasmine. Azhagu Sundaram lands in Chennai to find a job. Some events lead him to become as a gangster, Parattai. Parattai’s mother Archana lands in Chennai to find her son. Santhanam as Parattai’s friend takes up the role of comedian nicely. The movie failed due to the poor script .


Polladhavan (2007):


Polladhavan was Vetrimaran’s first movie as director. Dhanush (Prabhu) is from a lower middle class family and he often plays carrom with his friends Santhanam and Karunas. Prabhu’s father gives him money for his living. But Prabhu buys a Pulsar bike and finds a job. Prabhu falls in love with Divya Spandana. While he was with Divya Spandana he finds that his bike has been stolen. He then finds that the bike was stolen by villain Daniel Balaji who uses it for smuggling. The later story revolves on how Dhanush gets his bike.


Yaaradi Nee Mohini:


Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008) is a remake of hit Telugu movie Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule. The movie starred Dhanush (Vasu) in the lead role and Nayanthara (Keerthi) as the female lead. The movie also became actor Raghuvaran’s last film. Dhanush finds a job in a software company where Keerthi works as a manager . Vasu falls in love with Keerthi. While Keerthi rejects Vasu’s love , he gets upset. Seeing his son upset Raghuvaran along with Vasu meets Keerthi to help his son’s love. Keerthi angry at his father’s idea abuses both the father and son. His father dies in the night because of heart attack. Vasu’s friends take him to their hometown a village where Keerthi ‘s family live as a joint family. The story ends when Vasu and Keerthi join together. The movie was a box office hit.


Padikathavan:


Padikathavan was released in 2009. Dhanush (Radhakrishnan) is a drop out from 10th standard. He falls in love with Tamannah (Gayathri ) who is a rich and educated girl. He asks for help from Assualt Aarumugam (Vivek) who helps lovers. They go to Andhra Pradesh to help him marry Tammanah. He meets the don Atul Kulkarni , whose brother is killed by Dhanush accidently. The movie ends up with the fight between Radhakrishnan and Atul Kulkarni.


Kutty:


Kutty (2010) is a remake of Telugu movie Arya. Kutty (Dhanush) loves Shriya Saran(Geetha) while Geetha loves Arjun (Sameer Dattani ). Geetha avoids Kutty but he constantly plays around her. In the end Geetha realizes Kutty’s love and agrees to marry him. The movie was a decent hit.


Uthama Puthiran:


Uthama Puthiran is a remake of Telugu movie Ready. Siva (Dhanush) tries to help his friend to marry his girl ,so he tries to kidnap the girl from the marriage hall. He kidnaps the wrong girl Pooja (Genelia D’souza) . She requests him to leave her in her friend’s house. Siva falls in love with Pooja and wants to marry him. He then comes to know that Pooja’s relatives – Chinnamuthu gounder and Periyamuthu Gounder who are mad of money and want their sons to marry Pooja to get the wealth of Pooja’s family. Siva then plans in a smart way to teach them a lesson and marries Pooja at last.


Aadukalam:

Aadukalam saw Dhanush and Vetrimaran join after their successful venture Polladhavan. The movie circled around cock fighters Dhanush (Karuppu ), Durai (Kishore) , Pettaikaran (G Kumar). Ego of Pettaikaran makes him more jealous and angry towards Karruppu who starts winning cock fights. Karruppu experiences different circumstance and troubles. He finds out later that it was as a result of crooked intentions of Pettaikaran himself. The movie ends when Dhanush and his lover Irene (Tapsee) an anglo indian girl leave the town. The movie won six awards in the 58th National awards. Dhansuh also grabbed the best actor award as the movie received positive reviews around the world.


Seedan:


Seedan(2011) was a Tamil remake of the Malayalam movie Nandanam. Ananya as Mahalakshmi played the lead female role. Krishna as Mano played the lead male role. The movie saw Saravanan (Dhanush) in the role of a cook . Maha is the servant of the house of a large family. He falls in love with Mano. Maha is unhappy with lord Murugan as the family doesn’t accept her love and proceed for marriage. Later Saravanan help the couple join together. Maha later finds out that Saravana was Lord Murugan in the form of human being. The director of the movie Subramanium Shiva extended the role of Dhanush (Saravanan) which was limited to a few minutes in the original version. The movie failed to do well in the box office .


Mappilai:


Mappilai (2011) saw the combination of Dhanush, director Suraj and Vivek after their successful movie Padikathavan. Dhanush (Saravanan) is a good fellow who is loved by his neighbours. Chinna (Vivek) with the help of his friends tries to marry Gayathri (Hansika Motwani) who is the daughter of rich businesswomen Rajeshwari (Manisha Koirala). But Saravana ends up marrying Gayathri. The cold war between Saravanan and Rajeshwari is the rest of the story. The movie was a flop.


Vengai:


Vengai was released in the year 2011. Dhanush as Selvam is the loyal son of Veerapandi (Rajkiran) who come from a respected family in their hometown Pandiapuram. Rajalingam (Prakashraaj) is greedy of money and wants more. He comes in conflict of ideas with Veerapandi so helps him to become the MLA. So Rajalingam feuds with Veerapandi. Meanwhile Selvam falls In love with Gayathri (Tammanah ). The showdown between Rajalingam and Veerapandi supported by his son Selvam is the rest of the story. The movie was a flop because of the poor script and unwanted violence.


Mayakkam Enna:


Mayakkam Enna was the final flick of Dhanush in the year 2011. The movie was directed by his own brother Director Selvaraghavan . Dhanush as Karthik is an aspiring photographer . He is inspired by Madhesh and wants to be a photographer like him . Karthik comes in contact with Yamini (Richa Gangopadhyay) . They become close together and later marry. He later finds that Madesh has stolen some of his wildlife photos and send them over to magazines and he ends up winning and award. Karthik gets upset and the way he approaches his life is the rest of the story. The movie received positive reviews from many newspapers and critics. The role of Dhanush was also praised.

‘3’ is Dhanush’s next movie expected to release in 2012. The movie is being directed by his wife Aishwarya Dhanush. Shruthi Hassan plays the female lead. Music is being composed by newcomer Anirudh Ravichander. The song ‘’Why this Kolaveri’ got leaked which prompted the crew to release the single version of the song. 'Why this Kolaveri' became a huge hit and has so far crossed 20 million hits so far in Youtube. The film is yet to be released. The music of the movie is scheduled to release on 23rd December 2011.

  8. Myru mayakkam enna film and 3 films are both similar to psychological thriller subject. My view is acting part,background music is good. But I don't likethe regular script and portrayal is not good

  9. @Krishna Yeah you are right. Both Mayakkam enna and 3 doesn't portray a usual Dhanush.Some might accept heroes facing hard failures and others might not. Incidentally 3 was a failure at the box office.
